Chapter 287: The Vixeria Princess (1)
The tail was beautiful, covered in shimmering scales with a mix of soft pink and blue colors.
Azul, who was sitting right beside Roxanna, also looked completely speechless. "I... I thought she would become a little fish," he muttered in disbelief. "But... I don’t remember ever transforming like this before."
Roxanna was confused about it too, and she couldn’t deny that she wanted to know the reason behind her daughter’s appearance. But right now, none of that felt important anymore.
"At least she looks healthy," Roxanna whispered softly, her voice full of relief.
Lila quickly helped her sit up by carefully stacking several blankets behind her back for support.
After that, Grandma Mia gently placed the baby into Roxanna’s arms. At the same time, Azul quickly slid his hands beneath Roxanna’s to help support their daughter together with her.
Azul then said, "Yes... she looks really healthy." A smile slowly appeared on his face. Tears also began filling his eyes before finally rolling down his cheeks.
"And she’s beautiful too," he whispered emotionally. "Just like her mother."
Roxanna let out a weak but amused laugh. "I think she looks more like you."
She wanted to tease him a little more, but suddenly, her daughter’s expression changed.
The baby suddenly looked like she was choking. Her crying stopped completely, and her tiny face immediately began turning red.
"What happened?!" Roxanna asked in panic, immediately tightening her hold on the baby. "Is she sick?!"
Grandma Mia’s expression instantly turned tense as she leaned closer to check on the baby, but before she could say anything, Azul suddenly froze.
His blue eyes widened slightly as if he had just realized something important.
"Water," he said quickly. "She needs water."
Everyone inside the hut immediately turned to look at him.
"What?" Roxanna asked nervously.
Azul carefully reached for the baby. "Her body is drying out." His voice sounded unusually serious now. "Her scales... look at them."
Only then did Roxanna notice that the baby’s tiny pink scales no longer looked shiny like before. They looked dry, and the baby’s little tail was twitching weakly in discomfort.
"She needs water right now," Azul repeated.
Without wasting another second, Azul quickly picked up their baby and rushed out of the hut.
The other husbands had originally wanted to ask about the baby, but the moment they saw the panic on Azul’s face and the way he suddenly ran outside, they immediately became alarmed as well.
"Hey! Where are you going?!" Calen shouted in panic.
Not daring to waste time, Calen and Zeir quickly chased after Azul, while Luan and Cyrus stayed behind beside Roxanna.
Azul ran as fast as he could toward the river near the settlement, carefully holding their tiny daughter against his chest.
The baby’s face was still red, and her small body kept twitching weakly, making Azul’s heart pound harder with panic.
"Hold on," he whispered desperately while running. "Just hold on a little longer."
Behind him, Calen and Zeir chased after him in confusion. "What’s happening to the baby?!" Calen shouted anxiously.
"She needs water," Azul answered quickly without slowing down. "Her body is drying out!"
"What?!" Calen looked completely stunned.
Before either of them could ask more questions, Azul finally reached the riverbank. Without even bothering to remove his clothes, he immediately stepped into the water and then dove in together with the baby in his arms.
SPLASH!
Calen nearly screamed in horror. "ARE YOU CRAZY?! THE BABY WAS JUST BORN!"
But the moment Azul emerged from the water again, both Calen and Zeir froze.
The baby was no longer struggling.
Instead, she looked completely comfortable inside Azul’s arms. Her tiny mermaid tail happily moved beneath the water while small bubbles escaped from her mouth, even the pink scales covering her body looked much shinier than before.
Azul let out a deep breath of relief, his shoulders finally relaxing. "She’s breathing normally now..." he whispered emotionally.
The baby suddenly let out a tiny sound before splashing water directly into Azul’s face with her little tail.
For a second, Azul simply stared at her blankly before slowly smiling.
"She already likes the water," he murmured proudly.
Meanwhile, Calen stood frozen on the riverbank, staring at the baby with complete shock written all over his face.
"Did our daughter really learn how to swim before she can even walk?" he asked weakly, still struggling to process what he was seeing.
Then he suddenly seemed to realize something. "Ah... right," Calen muttered. "I forgot her father is literally a fish."
He narrowed his eyes and stared at the baby more seriously. "But she doesn’t even look like a tiny fish," he said in confusion. "So why does she look like this?"
"There’s nothing wrong with her," Zeir suddenly said calmly. "She looks healthy and beautiful. Our princess is perfectly fine."
Calen frowned a little after hearing that word. As far as he knew, their tribe didn’t even have kings or princesses.
But honestly... it sounded surprisingly cute.
"Yeah," Calen admitted while looking at the baby again. "Our princess is really pretty and healthy."
Then his ears twitched slightly with excitement. "We should give her a name soon."
"Roxanna should name her," Azul immediately said without hesitation. His gaze softened as he looked down at the tiny baby resting in his arms.
"She’s the one who carried our daughter and gave birth to her," Azul continued quietly. "So she deserves to be the one who gives her a name."
"Yeah. That’s fair," Calen admitted.
Zeir nodded in agreement. "She has earned that right."
Meanwhile, Azul carefully adjusted the baby in his arms while keeping most of her tiny tail underwater. The little girl looked completely relaxed now, occasionally swishing her tail and creating tiny splashes around them.
"We should make something so she can stay close to us," Azul said while carefully holding their daughter in the water. "Maybe... we can build a pond near our hut. I’m still not sure when she’ll be able to breathe normally on land."
After all, as long as their daughter still had scales and a tail like this, it didn’t seem like she could stay out of the water for too long.
Calen immediately puffed out his chest proudly. "Don’t worry! I’ll build a pond right away!" he declared confidently. "You two can stay here while I do it!"
