Chapter 107: Not Suicidal
Chapter 107: Not Suicidal
Limited in his nature, infinite in his desires, man is a fallen god who remembers the heavens.
But Zane, he wasn’t God.
He wasn’t even a Human for most people.
He was filth.
And since filth weren’t supposed to shout and complain, Zane wasn’t filth anymore as well.
Xavier knew that.
So instead of simple filth, he called Zane something else.
Fallen filth.
Someone who fell from their existence of being filth.
The first Ashbearer held Zane in the air and with all his strength, he launched the gutterborn towards his sister. Towards the Emberlord.
And he didn’t just launch him, he made sure to demand something from Zane.
The demand being...
"Go and bite him too."
Zane said nothing and he knew it would be useless.
But for Milo, he was ready to throw a dart in the dark.
He tore through the air and with his chains, went straight for the Emberlord’s back.
Zane knew Coin might flick his finger again but he already tied his coffin on his head.
He was a dead man walking.
Flashes from the audience kept happening in the scene. They were busy with their rectangular crystals.
Those who didn’t had something like that, they were simply watching with bated breaths.
The Commoners had never thought someone had it in them to argue with the Emberlord. Much less a gutterborn.
The Halocrats had mixed reactions.
Some wanted Zane to die.
Some wanted Zane to be tortured.
Some wanted Zane and his sister to die.
Some malicified people wanted to make his sister their slave and use her for their personal pleasure.
Hena, who always wore dead expressions, had her fist clenched all the time and her bodyguard constantly murmured in her ears with a worried expression.
All of them were standing closer to the Citadel walls a few minutes ago but before they knew it, their feet moved on their own and created a circle around Zane and the Emberlord.
There was no one in front of Coin except Milo as everyone was behind.
They couldn’t believe that a simple disappearance of a relic brought the Cathedral to such an extent.
If anything, most of them were sure that only a Pyrelord if not the Grand Pyre had to step down to stop this chaos.
However, at the crux of everything, everyone knew one thing.
Things had gone out of hand.
The Emberlord still had Milo’s hair in his fist and his eyes were closed.
Zane couldn’t see that but he was sure that Coin was doing something. He must be.
"Let her go! I am not playing games, Emberlord! Do not make me your enemy!"
Zane yelled and made a fist.
He was about to reach the Emberlord and he was ready to strike him.
He would again try to pounce and if the moment came, he would eat his brains full of rotten devotion.
But then again, the Emberlord wasn’t someone anyone could pounce on.
He shot open his eyes and this time, he flicked no finger.
He simply said:
"Kairon."
"With pleasure."
Zane’s heart hammered his chest.
Everyone heard Coin and if he had taken Kairon’s name, it meant he gave the Enforcer full authority.
And someone like Kairon, he won’t think twice before exercesing the authority.
Zane had bitten a huge chunk of his leg and with each pang of pain, Kairon’s hatred grew towards the gutterborn.
Zane was reaching the Emberlord and with such a leg, Kairon won’t be able to stop Zane.
So he simply held his spear and aimed it.
He aimed it at the incoming Zane and with a grin, he launched it at full speed.
Zane’s eyes widened as he couldn’t dodge midair. Heck, he couldn’t move. It was already taking everything from him to not faint.
Xavier was lying on the floor after throwing Zane. He had spent all his strength just for that one push he gave to his friend. He wouldn’t be able to move anymore. He was trying but he won’t be able to save anyone. He could only move a few fingers.
Is this it?
Zane watched the tip of the spear coming towards his forehead but forgetting the spear, he looked at Milo.
The slums were heaven for us.
Zane closed his eyes and welcomed the spear.
However...
"I swear..."
THAAAMM!
A collective gasp erupted in the Cathedral.
Something landed between Zane before the spear could touch him.
Landed would be wrong to use.
Something fell and got destroyed in bits before the spear could touch Zane.
The spear itself bashed onto the thing that came out of nowhere.
All eyes stared at the fallen debris and all of them saw only one thing.
Wood.
Something made of wood had arrived just in time.
But before that, someone had spoken.
A voice that they hadn’t heard that often since the trial started.
It wasn’t Xavier.
The voice had fear in it and something with fear couldn’t belong to Xavier.
It was a new voice.
But it wasn’t new for Xavier and Zane.
Zane knew the owner of the voice and because of the help, he managed to reach near the Emberlord.
Everyone was taken off guard by the sudden sound and that included Coin as well.
Coin had let go of Milo’s hair and before he knew it, Zane was already near him.
Using the distraction, Zane successfully slid towards the Emberlord but instead of pouncing on him, Zane changed his plan.
He went to Milo, embraced her around his chest and slid far from Coin.
Zane then looked at the stage and nodded.
"Good work." Xavier praised, showing thumbs up.
All eyes followed his thumb and it was pointed at the stage.
Naturally, all of them looked at the stage and when they saw it, their mouths went agape.
The stage was missing something.
It was missing something essential.
They couldn’t name it under the stress but then one person found it.
"The Podium."
Just after that, everyone got to know.
The thing that had stopped the spear was none other than the podium that was on the stage.
Someone carried the podium and threw it on the floor.
Who could have such strength?
All eyes looked for the culprit and they didn’t have to look for long as there was only one person standing on stage with his hands in the air like he was under arrest.
When they saw him, they all recognised him.
It was the same man who was with Xavier.
It was...
"I swear..."
His voice cracked but he finished what he had to say.
"I swear I am not suicidal."
It was Tesla Jacardi.
